First Day Memories

blogger-image--2038364093In a few short weeks, I will send my first-born off to Kindergarten! I still can’t believe that we are already at this milestone. Five years flew by and we are about to embark on his “educational career”. This former teacher mommy is super excited.

As excited as I am about this, it’s weird to think about this year’s first day. You see our first day of school is going to look very different this year. No longer will I be up bright and early. No longer will I be snapping a quick picture of the boys and sending them off to daycare with their daddy. And no longer will I be rushing to my school, to meet my new students!  I’ve decided to say goodbye to teaching and try this stay at home thing. We’ll see how it goes, but for now I’m super excited for this opportunity.

So back to the first day…I’m a firm believer in celebrating everything and life really is too short not to! So with this years’ official first day of school rapidly approaching, I am busy gathering ideas to make this particular “first day” super special for my big boy, and creating some fun first day traditions.

Here’s what I’m thinking…

1. Having a school themed breakfast ready and waiting.

2. Taking our traditional first day of school pictures, with a cute printable of course!

3. Starting this super cute tradition, found none other than on Pinterest:  have your child write their name each year on the first day and watch how it progresses! This is the print I made!

4. Fill out a Back to School or First Day Interview! I think it’d be cute to save all these in a binder of some sort! I’m sure as a senior he’d just love to look back and see what his favorite hobby or show was, ha!

I want him to know that starting school is a huge deal and above all I want him to look at this as a fun, exciting, new adventure!!

I know I’m not alone here, so all you mommas out there who will be sending your littles to Kinder this year, how are you planning on celebrating this milestone??

  1. LOVE THIS! My little guy doesn’t go to kinder for another 2 years, but I can’t wait to start these. I also saw one on Pinterest where the woman had made a large tshirt that said “class of _____” and had the kid take a picture in it every year.
