One of my favorite items in my home is my chalkboard. Seems kinda silly saying that, but it is SO true! My chalkboard is an ever-changing piece that reflects what is going on in our family from birthdays and holidays to back to school and encouraging Bible verses and quotes.
I have been asked many times, “How do you come up with your chalkboard designs? How do you execute those designs?” Well, here’s my secret: a wet paper towel. 🙂
That’s right; a chalkboard can be absolutely foolproof. You just need to be calm and let the creativity flow. If it overflows, you have a handy little paper towel to clean up when you draw outside the lines!
Many times I find designs on Pinterest that I can mimic or I am encouraged by a verse or quote. I find a cute font and copy the text in that font onto my board. It may take a few tries, but it is certainly fun creating something beautiful from nothing.
My kiddos like to get in on the fun while I am building out my board. Instead of having them hanging off my arms grabbing for chalk and adding their special designs to my piece, I got them their own small chalk boards. It is a fun project to do as a family and it gives you some valuable time to work while they work.
Here are some examples of chalkboard art that have been up in my house:

My, oh my, I could add about 20 more pictures of fun boards. I always take pics of my boards so I can remember what I did, but it is also fun to go back and look through the pics. Floods of memories come to me about what was going on while that board was up or why I created a specific board.
Just for fun you can check out my Pinterest inspiration board dedicated to hand lettering. Some of the designs are mine, and some are inspiration to do later. Click Chalk It Up.
