Since 1982, A Wish with Wings has granted more than 1,300 wishes to children in Texas fighting life-threatening medical conditions. It is a local organization, and the only Wish granting organization exclusively for children in the state of Texas. It has a single office, located in Fort Worth, and the majority of wishes it grants are for children who live immediately in and around Fort Worth and Dallas. Many of A Wish with Wings children served are referred through Cook Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, as well as other pediatric hospitals across the state of Texas.
A Wish with Wings knows that health issues make life difficult, especially for young patients. That’s why it believes in helping bring happy moments to families in need of good news. Its donors and volunteers help to grant special, individualized wishes to offer joy, care, and encouragement, and thinks of it as giving wishes wings, one magical wish at a time.
Wish Recipients
One common question is whether A Wish with Wings child must have a “terminal” diagnosis. The
answer is NO, just a life-threatening illness. It is the hope of A Wish with Wings that all of its children overcome their illnesses and live happy healthy lives.
Most Wish children are referred through their physician, nurse, child life specialist, or social worker. However, applications are available on its website, or by emailing [email protected].
There are only four criteria to qualify for a wish:
- Be between the ages of 3-18* when the wish application is received.
- Have a medical diagnosis of a life-threatening condition.
- Live in, or be treated in, the state of Texas.
- Have not yet had a wish from another wish-granting organization.
*Exceptions may be made for children who are determined to be in urgent need of a wish due to medical condition.

The goal
of A Wish with Wings is to make sure that each child’s wish is a truly special experience, and that no child’s wish is left unfulfilled due to lack of funding. It is for this reason that donations of cash and gift cards are so appreciated. Donations can be made online at www.awishwithwings.org. Currently, A Wish with Wings is focusing on its back to school supply drive to help its Wish families with back to school expenses.
Volunteers are utilized primarily for support at A Wish with Wings various special events, such as the Fort Worth, Texas Magazine Dream Home, benefiting A Wish with Wings.
