Love My Local: Foster Park

0

Tucked just north of Interstate 20 and east of Hulen Street you will find the Foster Park neighborhood. We chose this area because of location, schools, and the great mix of young and old.

Don’t you just love to hear tales from your 90 year-old neighbor? When we first moved here, we proudly displayed our Baylor flag out front. Our neighbor across the street gingerly walked over to ask what that monstrosity was doing in our yard (jokingly, I think). He then went on to explain that he was a retired TCU chemistry professor and had lived in his home for 35 years. Right next door an elderly couple moved into an assistant living facility. They sold their house to a young couple who are doing a great job of making an older home look new again. We LOVE that about our neighborhood. So many walks of life nestled into one area.

The list of things I love in my neighborhood is as diverse as the neighborhood itself – and that’s the best part!

Foster Park is a wonderful park/recreation area located at the intersection of Trail Lake and South Drive. Here you can find two playgrounds, a baseball field, basketball court, a duck pond, lots of trails, and creeks for days! The trails that start in Foster Park will link you to the beautiful Overton Park area.

Joyner Plumbing, located at 4604 Granbury Road, has been our go-to plumber for almost five years. They are family owned and locally run. We have used them for everything from plumbing two bathroom remodels to a clogged drain. They come quickly and are always on time AND they are super quiet when you tell them your toddler is sleeping. Major brownie points in my book!

Less than two miles from Foster Park neighborhood you will find Bluebonnet Circle. Tons of fun shops and restaurants – all with their own kind of flair. After attending a FWMB event, I received a coupon for a free class at Smart Barre (Bluebonnet location). Now first let me say that I do NOT like to exercise. I used to be a soccer player and a runner, then I got old and had a kid . . . enough said. But, like most mothers, I was feeling frumpy and needing something to get my butt in gear. A friend of mine swears by barre classes so I decided to give it a go. Y’all, it is so wonderful! You hardly move off your mat because the moves are all very small and controlled. Best part was I could do it!  The ladies at Smart Barre (Bluebonnet) were so encouraging and supportive. The studio is super cute and smells really good.

After you have worked out, you will feel good about going to the next place on my list . . . Charley’s Hamburgers. Located at 4616 Granbury Road, this Fort Worth gem offers some of the most mouth watering burgers and milkshakes in town (IMO, of course). They have a small outdoor seating area for when the weather cooperates, where you can order at the walk-up counter. Indoor seating is also available. Along with your burger and fries, they will sneak in a side of oranges and apples . . . just to make you feel a little better about your meal!

These are just a few great places in my neighborhood. Can any other Foster Park readers add to the list?

We, at FWMB, love our local so much we created Neighbor Groups for every corner of Tarrant county — and in between. You’ll also find topical groups, like adoptive moms, single moms, food allergy moms, etc. Join a Neighbor Group (or two) today and get connected with other moms in your area.
