Love My Local: West Fort Worth

One of the most fabulous things about living in west Fort Worth is the stunning vista. I love that I can see — truly see — where The West begins as I exit for my neighborhood. The sunset views on this side of town are spectacular. We’ve got cows grazing and a state championship football team within spitting distance. We’re having the quintessential Texas experience over here on the west side. It’s a community that gives a small town girl peace while raising kids near the city.

That being said, there are some practical things I love about it, too.

Babies on the Boulevard
A long-time beloved children’s store on West Camp Bowie, Babies on the Boulevard has been my go-to clothing store for outfitting my children. The owner, Lauren von Kerens, has a meticulous eye for classic children’s clothing and provides excellent customer service. You’ll find my kids dressed in clothes from here for many of our special moments, from baby dedication to pictures with Santa. She also carries backpacks, nap mats, and shoes. I always find something to buy here, and I especially love that she carries Beaufort Bonnets!

Dance Concept
Upon finding out I was having a girl, immediately my mind saw the future vision of a tiny tutu’d precious little angel-girl dancer. Dance Concept takes students as young as two years old. We started last summer with a six-week camp to try it out, then went all in this fall. I’m beside myself at the idea of the recital this spring. They even have princess camps during the summer for preschoolers. Adorable.

BBQ on the Brazos
Located in Cresson on 377 inside the Texaco station, this is some of the best BBQ we’ve had in the DFW area. I know, I know, everyone’s taste is subjective on Texas BBQ, but these folks are putting out the good stuff. Across the back of the Texaco is a balcony/porch overlooking Motorsport Ranch, a race track facility, which will absolutely keep your little ones entertained if there’s any action going on. BBQ on the Brazos is open every day except Sunday until 3:00 p.m., or when the BBQ runs out.

The Lunch Box
Known for its green and yellow sunny interiors, The Lunchbox is a West Fort Worth lunchtime destination. Within the past couple of years, they’ve started serving breakfast as well. If you’re looking for a patio on which to take residence on these upcoming (hopefully) beautiful spring days, you’ll find a great one here. Try the chicken salad and don’t miss the cookies!

Snow Wonder
Before we had kids, my husband and I made it our “thing” to taste snow cones from the north to the south and all the way out to Aledo. We are convinced Snow Wonder has the best shaved ice in the area. We are pumped to see they’ll be opening back up in March 2016. That’s not far at all!

We, at FWMB, love our local so much we created Neighbor Groups for every corner of Tarrant county — and in between. You’ll also find topical groups, like adoptive moms, single moms, food allergy moms, etc. Join a Neighbor Group (or two) today and get connected with other moms in your area.

  1. Hey Emily! Where is Snow Wonder located? Excited for March to get one 🙂 I have yet to find a great snowball (as I call it, husband insists they are snow cones) here in the Fort Worth area.
