A well visit at the pediatrician’s office usually includes the usual discussion about diet, growth, and habits. I confess I’m always a little stunned by the recommended amount of time children should be in front of screens. Why is it a confession? Because my kids spend more time in front of screens than they “should.” And I think you are probably confessing the same right there with me.

No, I’m not parking my kiddos in front of the television or a tablet all day every day, and I bet you aren’t either. But when I think about ALL the time during the day they are in front of a screen . . . television, tablet, step counter, cell phone (mine, not theirs), computer at school (AR tests, Achieve 3000, math games, movies on rainy days, and on and on) . . . . Surely, we can all agree that kiddos today encounter and engage with screens WAAAAY more than we experienced.

Screens are all over my house and make life so much more efficient. Aside from the norm — like phones, televisions, computers, and tablets — my house probably looks a lot like yours: stove has a digital control, along with the air conditioner and heater, alarm system . . . heck, my computer printer has a digital screen.

There are so many benefits and bonuses to this digital age; however, a downside — and one becoming more and more common — is eye strain and fatigue. This condition isn’t just for grown ups who sit at a desk all day staring at a computer. If your kiddo complains of eye dryness, blurry vision, eye fatigue, headaches, or even neck and back pain, digital eye strain may be at fault.

A Vitamin a Day . . .

That’s where EyePromise Screen Shield™ Teen comes in.

This once-per-day, fruit punch flavored chewable vitamin is designed to support your children’s vision from the inside out. Just like we provide multi-vitamins to our children to give their bodies their best chance at healthy growth and function, these “eye vitamins” (as we call them around here), provide nutrients that target eye health.

EyePromise Screen Shield Teen’s key ingredient, zeaxanthin (say it with me now: zee-uh-zan-thin), is a nutrient that acts as a barrier between our source of vision in the back of the eye and harmful oxidants that can damage our long-term vision. We’re all born with certain levels of zeaxanthin, but the body cannot produce more on its own, which means we have to eat foods that contain this nutrient and/or take eye vitamins. With five milligrams of dietary zeaxanthin and two-and-a-half milligrams of lutein, this leading eye health vitamin can help increase the eyes’ protective barrier that defends the source of vision, while also protecting it from the effects of ongoing screen time. And we all know screen time is ongoing.

I have good news: EyePromise Screen Shield Teen comes from the number one doctor-recommended eye vitamin brand in the United States. It’s made with 100 percent natural zeaxanthin, is GMO-free and gluten-free, and is designed to be taken with a multivitamin. To ease your concerns, know this: EyePromise places the highest priority on product quality. Its nutraceuticals are pharmaceutical-grade, contain the highest-quality ingredients, and are manufactured to the exacting standards of the FDA current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) requirements. (Now that’s a mouthful, but it’s true!)

Tips to remember, friends:

  • One chewable pill once per day.
  • Safe to take with a multivitamin, which are Elsa- and Anna-themed at our house.
  • Take eye vitamin with a meal; this aids in absorption and prevents upset tummies.

Studies show it takes about one month before your kids — and you — will begin to see (pun totally intended) relief from eye strain. I’d love to hear about your results too. Post away in the comments below.
