Let’s take a moment to pause and catch our breath because holy smokes it’s June! June is my favorite time of the year not only because it’s the start of summer, but also because it’s LGBTQ Pride Month!
It seems like, as the years progress, more and more events are generated. On top of that, the events themselves are more inclusive and kid-friendly. Although Dallas had its pride parade and festival the first weekend of June, there’s a whole lot more fun to be had throughout the metroplex. Bring the kids or take time for yourself to check out these upcoming events.
June 7
MariconX Pride Exhibit — Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak Street, Dallas // 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. // Presented by the Latino Cultural Center and Arttitude, MariconX will exhibit the works of Latinx artists through the LGBTQ lens. The event is free to the public and includes an opening reception.
June 15
2019 North Texas Pride “Come As You Are” Festival — Saigling House, 902 East 16th Street, Plano, Texas // 11:00 a.m – 7:00 p.m. // Plano’s 9th annual Pride festival will take place at the Saigling House in Haggard Park. Enjoy music, food, children’s activities, and giveaways. Tickets range from $8-$20 through Eventbrite and support North Texas Pride Foundation’s vision of creating a permanent space for other local events.
Pride Film Screening: Before Stonewall — Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell Street, Fort Worth // 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. // 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the infamous Stonewall Riots that took place in New York City. This uprising had a significant impact on the LGBTQ movement. The event is free but registration is required through the AARP website.
Trinity Pride Fest — Magnolia Green Park, 1201 Lipscomb Street, Fort Worth // 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. // Trinity Pride Fest and Panther City Exchange invite you to celebrate pride with a night full of music and food. The Humane Society of North Texas will also be onsite with a trailer full of fluffers ready to go home with you! (Find more info on the pet adoption event
here.) The event is free and free parking is available at 1201 Alston Avenue garage.
Oak Cliff Pride — CocoAndre Chocolatier, 508 W 7th Street, Dallas // 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. // This year’s Oak Cliff Pride will be hosted by Texas Latino Pride and CocoAndre Chocolatier. Indulge in some artisan chocolate while supporting local artists. Everything from plants to clothing to food will be available for purchase. Admission is free.
June 21 – 22
Pride Block Party — Dallas Arts District, Flora & Harwood streets, Dallas // 6:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. // The Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center bring you the perfect blend of arts, culture, and LGBTQ pride. Although there will be vendors, artisans, and food trucks outside, the museums will hold special performances, tours, and movie screenings indoors. The block party is free and open to all ages. The DMA requires a $10 admission to the exhibits and performances.
June 28
Denton Pride Fest — North Texas Fair Grounds, 2217 North Carroll Boulevard, Denton // 3:00 – 10:00 p.m. // Denton Pride Foundation is hosting a day filled with music, guest speakers, food and local artisans. Admission is free and is an all ages event.
