Remember the snow-pacalypse? Yeah, we don’t either. Things are H-O-T in North Texas, and lucky for us there’s plenty of family fun to be had both indoors and outdoors, just in time for fun Fourth of July Events!
 
We’ve done the work for you, researching virtual and in-person area events for the family. Looking to get out of the house — like REALLY get away from home? Black Girl Magic Pop Up Museum // The Black Girl Magic Pop Up Museum is an interactive museum to pay homage and honor the contribution that black women have had. The museum has more than eight interactive Instagram-worthy photo-ops. Come and enjoy melanin boxes, the Black Girl Magic Room, melanin room, Say Her Name Room, I Am Not My Hair room, and so much more.

Elephant Springs Opening at Fort Worth Zoo // Visit the new Elephant Springs habitat at Fort Worth Zoo. Almost tripling its current size, this space serves as the home to the zoo’s Asian elephant herd, which includes a three-generation family.

Kinder Prep 101 Spanish at Central Library // Kinder Prep 101 is a supportive, engaging program designed to help parents and caregivers prepare children for kindergarten. This 10-week online program will go over topics such as the different stages children learn, types of schools and programs, classroom setup, and introductions to math, science, reading and writing.

Sean Kenney’s Nature Connects Made with LEGO Bricks at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden // This award-winning and record-breaking exhibition uses beautiful works of art made from toy blocks to explore animal endangerment, the balance of ecosystems, and humanity’s relationship with nature. 

All Month {Virtual}

Art Tales at Amon Carter Museum of American Art // Tune in every Wednesday morning in June and July for weekly story time in connection with an artwork in the Carter’s collection. After the story, enjoy a fun art project using materials you already have at home.

Fort Worth Nature Center Discovery Club and Story Time // A weekly collaboration with Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge that opens with a story time, provided by Youth Services staff, and ends with an on-site lesson from the Nature Center staff. Tune in on its YouTube channel.

River Legacy Art Contest // From May 1 to June 30, kids in preschool up to grade 12 can create and enter! The them is “Get Creative with What’s Native,” and prizes include Air Pods, a TV, and bike.

Summer 2021 at the Science Center // Summer Classes at the Living Science Center provide students with an exciting hands-on, minds-on opportunity to explore the natural world. A variety of programs offer an interactive, engaging way to learn about wildlife, ecology, and the environment. For class listings and registration information, go here.

July 3 {In-person}

Bubble Bash at Play Street Fort Worth // Grab a spot and POP on over to PSM Fort Worth on Saturday, July 3, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. for a BUBBLE BASH! In addition to playtime, kiddos can explore bubbles through a variety of bubble activities.

July 5 – 9 {Virtual}

Virtual Teen Summer Studio at Kimbell Art Musuem // Teens interested in developing their studio skills and creative practice can apply to participate in an immersive virtual workshop led by professional artist and teacher DJ Perera. The program is free, but space is limited. 

Virtual Toddler Studio :: Meet the Builder // Tune in for a fun conversation with the Amon Carter Museum of American Art’s head of facilities (a person who makes sure the museum’s building is in tip-top shape). Solve some puzzles, play some games, and build a special sculpture as a family! Download an activity sheet for DIY fun.

July 8 {In-person}

Pizza and Playtime at Play Street Museum // No need to feed the kiddos before you arrive because PSM will be enjoying pizza with playtime! It will provide cheese and pepperoni pizza as well as water or juice. A special pizza themed craft will also be available. 

July 10 {In-person}

Tea at the Garden: Summertime Afternoon Tea // Enjoy scrumptious snacks and a delicious selection of beverages at Fort Worth Botanic Garden’s monthly tea. Reservations are required and space is limited. 

July 11 {Virtual}

Drawing from the Collection {Live} by The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth// Adults and teens all skill levels learn with local artists who lead informal activities in response to selected works from the Modern’s permanent collection. Investigate and respond to works of art from the Modern’s galleries from the comfort of your own home. This is a LIVE virtual event.

July 19 – 23 {Virtual}

Virtual Summer Camp by Sid Richardson Museum // The Sid Richardson Museum is excited to offer a week-long art making opportunity for creative kids! It includes live interactions with staff educators and other campers, virtual visits to the galleries through video tours, daily lessons in mediums including painting, drawing, and sculpture, all necessary art supplies and tools conveniently packaged and shipped to you.

July 12 – 18 {In-person}

Adventure Days in the Garden // A new way to experience the Fort Worth Botanic Garden! Adventure Days in the Garden offers the fun of camp for the whole family! Adventure kits are designed to engage all ages in activities that draw attention to nature while exploring unique garden spaces.

July 17 {Virtual}

Itty-Bitty Art: Stretch & Crawl at the Amon Carter Museum // Can you reach it? Get those muscles working with this month’s action-packed resource, filled with Carter artworks and baby-friendly movement activities perfect for your active infant.

JAW-Some Shark Paint & Play at Play Street Museum // Grab a spot and join PSM for a shark paint & play! In addition to playtime, kiddos will paint a ceramic shark.

On-Going Virtual Events

Fort Worth Zoo’s Virtual Programs // Whether you are learning at home or in the classroom, would like to offer a fun virtual experience for employees or residents, or you just miss the Fort Worth Zoo, it is ready to bring the animals to you. Connect with the animals through your choice of virtual programs, starting at $25. Zoo members save 10 percent during registration. 

Virtual Story Times // North Richland Hills Library hosts virtual story times every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. on its Facebook page. After the reading, the video will be available on its YouTube channel and the library’s website

Yogin’s Karma Bookclub // Karma Yoga in Denton is starting a free community yoga bookclub to learn more about the practice of yoga and how to transform our lives off the mat and see how the words impact not only us, but our fellow yogis. Learn more HERE.

Virtual Nurturing Parent Group // Hosted by My Health My Resources of Tarrant County, the virtual nurturing parent group is “a family-centered trauma-informed initiative designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to other forms of parenting and child-rearing practices. This is a great group for any and all parents wanting to learn about parenting for any child.” Meetings happen every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Learn more here.

National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame // Need activities to keep your young cowgirls and cowboys busy? Take advantage of this free online resources and activities!

The Kimbell Art Museum’s Kimbell At Home program // Experience the Kimbell from home. Explore the collection, download family art activities, and take an audio tour.

Virtual Wednesday Walks // Join the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge for a virtual walk on the trails. Every Wednesday, it will pick a trail, hike, and see what is along the trail in the form of plants and animals. This is a great way to catch up and for you to see what is available on the trails. It will continue these virtual walks while it is closed for the public. Hike starts at 10:00 a.m. and the end time is not definitive. Typical hike will be an hour at the most.
