January 1 -2 // New Year’s Texas Live! // On New Year’s Day, watch every college football bowl game in one of the venue’s 10 different bar & restaurants. On January 2, come watch Dallas play Arizona and play backyard games.

January 4 // Pictures and Pages :: Fotos y Libros // Virtual, presented by the Kimbell Art Museum // Join the museum on YouTube for a theatrical story time reading of Story Boat, by Kyo Maclear; illustrated by Rashin Kheiriyehresented. It will be in English and Spanish—just for kids!

January 8 // Elvis Birthday Celebration // Downtown Cowtown at The Isis // Rock and roll with renowned Elvis tribute artist Victor Trevino Jr. to celebrate the king of rock and roll’s 87th birthday. 

January 8 // Amon Carter Museum of American Art // Sensory Exploration: Let’s Move! is for families with children who are on the autism spectrum. Kids of all ages can explore artworks depicting motion and movement, enjoy interactive experiences, and make art. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request. Free event.

January 11 // Conversations with Women’s Voices of DFW: Kellie Rasberry // Downtown Cowtown at The Isis // Radio personality Kellie Rasberry of The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show shares what her journey in radio has been like, including where she finds strength and inspiration. 

January 13 // Nature Adventurers: Snakes // River Legacy Living Science Center // Slither in to learn all about snakes! This is a 1.5 hour learning opportunity for preschoolers (ages two and a half to five years old) and an adult partner.

January 14 – 15 // Robert Spano Conducts Scheherazade // Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra // Listen to George Walker’s most popular work at the Bass Hall. Walker was the first African American composer to win the Pulitzer Prize for music, and he wrote this performance in memory of his grandmother, an escaped slave, later arranging the achingly bittersweet slow movement, Lyric for Strings, for string orchestra. It became his most popular work.

January 15 // Itty Bitty Art: Birds of a Feather // Amon Carter Museum of American Art // Spend the morning exploring your favorite animals in the galleries, then challenge your growing fine-motor skills with fun sensory activities.

January 15 // Carter Playdate: Animal Adventures // Amon Carter Museum of American Art // The museum will read  How to Make a Bird by Megan McKinlay. Visit furry and feathered friends in the galleries and work together as a family to create a colorful field guide filled with your favorite finds.

January 15 // Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio: Still Life Collages // Flower, fruit, or fish? Check out still-lifes in the Kimbell collection and pick up free art materials for a related at-home collage activity.

January 18 – February 6 // Broadway at The Bass: Hamilton // The Bass // Hamilton is the story of America’s founding father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. The music blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B.

January 27 // Nature Adventurers: Turtles // This is a 1.5 hour learning opportunity is for preschoolers and an adult partner.

January 26, 28, & 30 // Fort Worth Opera Presents: Zorro // Rose Marine Theatre from January 26 and 28, and at Will Rogers Memorial Center on January 30 // The 2021-2022 season marks the fourth year of Noches de Ópera, Fort Worth Opera’s celebration of Spanish-language operas and Latino(a) culture, heritage, and artistry. Based upon the popular pulp fiction novels of prolific American pulp writer Johnston McCulley, this explosive new work is filled with romance, danger, and sword-fighting suspense.

January 28 – 29 // Lil & Satchmo: A Play with Music // Jubilee Theatre // This is a musical love story showcasing the works of both the well-known great Louis Armstrong and Lil Hardin Armstrong, Louis’s second wife (of four), who herself loomed as a highly renowned jazz musician and pianist.
