American Desi, written by Jyoti Rajan Gopal, illustrated by Supriya Kelkar, is about about a girl named Desi who is trying to find out who she is during this dual-language storybook reading. Celebrate who you are while looking closely at an artwork from the Kimbell’s collection and creating a work of art exploring identity.

August 4 // Black Every Day: Photographs from the Carter Collection // Amon Carter Museum // Led by a docent, this free tour will focus on the exhibition Black Every Day: Photographs from the Carter Collection and explore the richness of Black culture in photographic representations of Black Americans in the Carter’s collection. 

August 4 // Ice Cream Social // Fort Worth Zoo // This event is for Fort Worth Zoo members. Attend the last summer soiree before the school year starts. Grab an ice-cream treat in The Reserve and visit Elephant Springs and African Savanna after zoo hours.

August 5 – 7 // Bat Boy the Musical // Casa Mañana // For mature audiences, this story is based on the infamous headline in the “Weekly World News” tabloid. It is a hilarious modern musical that tells the story of a half-human/half-bat boy by the name of Edgar. It is a love story that’s part comic book, part horror flick — and all fun. The show is suitable for mature audiences.

August 6 // Toddler Studio: Color Collectors // Amon Carter Museum // Glass comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors! Join the museum for a morning exploring sculptures in Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano and enjoy a colorful toddler-friendly sensory playtime.

August 6 // Family Workshop: Travel Mosaics // Amon Carter Museum // Enjoy an afternoon of looking, learning, and creating inspired by artworks in Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano. Learn about American artists who found inspiration during their travels to Venice and then create your own colorful mosaics.

August 13 // Free Backyard Composting Class // River Legacy Living Science Center // Attend this hands-on class about how to compost at home. This event is free and requires no registration. It meets at the compost area in the southeast corner of the science center parking area. 

August 17 // Cover to Cover // Fort Worth Museum of Science and Natural History // Join Cover 2 Cover, your lunchtime virtual book club! Bring your lunch and discuss different books about non-fiction history and science topics. This month looks at the book, “Code Girls.” For 18 years and older.

TCU Soccer // TCU vs. Wisconsin // Texas Christian University at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium // The Horned Frog soccer team kicks off their home season when Wisconsin comes to town! The Frogs are back-to-back Big 12 champions and are looking to defend its crown.
