There’s something unique about the sport of football in that there is something for every person on the field. Each position requires a different skillset — speed, strength, accuracy, etc. Of course, these traits bleed into other positions, but the beauty is that — as a whole — the best teams are those with diverse talents and attitudes.

Texas, specifically Fort Worth, celebrates football for these reasons and many more. Parents can enroll children usually starting at six years old all the way up to senior year of high school. Sure, most will not progress to a high level. But you’d be hard-pressed to find a player who did not learn more about his or herself, leadership, and what it means to be part of a team.

Future for Football helps parents find flag, tackle, and girls youth football leauges.

Girls Welcome

And lucky for youth, football participation continues to grow in all the right ways. Not only are there many kinds of football (flag and tackle), but the option for females to play is also becoming more abundant.

In 2021, Western Hills High School offered its first varsity female flag football team: the Lady Cougars. It was one of the only public school systems to offer the program, and they did so with the help of the Dallas Cowboys.

Flag

Flag football is a great option for youth who are not interested in tackle football. Instead of tackling opponents, players must remove a velcro flag attached to the belt of every player. This is a great option for younger children to learn the ins and outs of the game.

Future for Football is a great resource to find more flag football options in Fort Worth, but below is a sampling, especially if you are interested in co-ed options.

footballTackle

Like flag football, tackle football teaches kids how to listen to a coach, be a team player, and follow a game plan. The difference is that kids are allowed to tackle opponents, so there’s more intensity and physical demand to the game. Also — kids just find it FUN. It’s like rough-housing at home, but with pads and a helmet.
