Guide to Winter Fun Runs in Fort Worth & Surrounding Areas

Keep your body moving this winter at a local race or fun run. We’ve made a list of all the big ones in Fort Worth and around Tarrant County. If you haven’t done a fun run in a while, you should! You’ll feel very accomplished once it’s over — might be worth it for that feeling alone!?

Remember to check ahead for changes or cancellations.

November 19
Pumpkin Spice 5K, 10K, Half-Marathon | Fort Worth

Visit the link for event details like the pumpkin pie eating contest, fall costume contest, afterparty, swag, and more. This one will be at Panther Island Pavillion.


November 17 & 18 {SOLD OUT}
Prairie Lights Sneak-A-Peek 5K | Grand Prairie

Note: This event has gotten super popular. Early registration starts in September, so put a reminder in your phone now for next year!

Be the first to see the displays at Prairie Lights as you run, jog, walk, or stroll through the park. November 19 will be for runners, joggers and fast walkers. November 20 is for those who want to walk the course. See link for costume contest info!

YMCA Turkey Trot | Fort Worth

The 41st annual Thanksgiving-Day event includes a 1K, 5K, and 10K on Camp Bowie. Check the website for registration information, course maps, FAQs, and more.


December 3
Elves on the Run 5K | Grapevine (and virtual)

Come out to Oak Grove Park for the annual fundraiser from the Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber (benefiting students in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD). Several options here: a kids 1-mile run, student 5K, and adult 5K.


December 3
Reindeer Run 5K and Grinch Sprint | Flower Mound

The Reindeer Run is a gently sloping, stroller-capable course through the trails of Heritage and Bakersfield parks in south Flower Mound. The Grinch Sprint is a one-miler for kids. Santa Claus and the Grinch will be there for photos. Come in costume!


December 10
Reindeer Romp | Fort Worth

Today is the 15th annual Reindeer Romp at Alliance Airport, with proceeds benefiting Northwest ISD. There will be a 5K and 1-mile fun run plus live reindeer, hot chocolate, and maybe even a Disney character or two.


December 18
Santa 5K | Fort Worth

As usual, there will be 5Ks for members of the Fort Worth Runners Club and non-members in Trinity Park this morning. Join or renew membership here. The free 1K for kids begins at 7:45 a.m. The 5K run/race for each group begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.


January 1
Winter Warm-Up | Fort Worth (and virtual)

Opt for a 5K, 10K, or half-marathon today at this new Marine Creek Lake event. Runners and walkers welcome. Check the link for info on the Weigh Down Challege, an in-race fundraiser that’s also a funny bit.


February 13
Valentine’s Day 5K | Fort Worth

The Fort Worth Runners Club has one of its regularly scheduled 5Ks today. If your child is working on stamina, sign up for the free kids 1K fun run before the main event! Details at the link.


February 18 – 20
Dalmatian Run Fest and Dizzy Dalmatian 101 | Fort Worth

You have several race events to choose from this President’s Day weekend at Marine Creek Lake, from 5K to half-marathon to combo runs over the course of the weekend. Benefits the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection.


February 25 & 26
Cowtown Marathon | Fort Worth

Yes, this is “the marathon,” but there are a number of associated running events this weekend: half-marathon, ultra-marathon, Healthy HIG Relay, kids 5K, and adult 5K and 10K. See the link for dates and details depending on which run you’re doing.
