Sometimes I scoff aloud and shake my head when I walk through the toddler section at Target and see adorable dresses and tights for girls that I would honestly wear myself if they were in adult sizes and featured across the store aisle. True, sometimes there are many more cute things for girls than boys. But truth be told, I love dressing my son and always come to love each season’s clothing staples. By no means do I break the bank. My favorite places to stock up on staples are the crowd-favorites Old Navy, Gap and Target. But sometimes you need a special piece for an event or occasion. . .
Hanna Andersson: Hit a sale on this site or in their NorthPark location and you’ll have the little one looking like a million dollars. The highlights here are the quality materials that aren’t scratchy or fussy. Instead of the sets you’ll find at some stores that limit ward-robing options, every item from Hanna Andersson seems to coordinate with everything else, whichever way you style it that day. Smocked Auctions and Southern Tots: These two are my favorite for applique and classic hand smocked clothing pieces that really make holidays and special occasions feel extra celebratory and stylish. Like them on Facebook and Instagram and shop straight from your news feed or scan their site for daily deals and pre-order specials. If you love the look of unique pieces usually found in children’s boutiques, you’ll love these two companies.
Two other sites to shop around on are Best Dressed Child, also for their collection of smocked pieces including a category devoted to twins and brother-sister matching items, and thredUp, a secondhand clothing site where you can send your own women’s and children’s clothing and receive credit to purchase quality pieces (like an oxford Polo Ralph Lauren shirt I bought for my son that is an exact match to his dad’s) without having to rummage through a single store rack, and even refine the search by your favorite brands.
I do most of my shopping online because it’s so efficient and I stock up during sales, so rarely do I pay shipping or full price for anything. Just about all of my son’s shoes have come from Amazon. But,when I don’t have time to shop ahead and look for deals, I love supporting local businesses like Zoe & Jack, Babies on the Boulevard and Baby By Design, as all are great go-to places for truly adorable pieces.
