Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday celebrated on the fifth of May every year; mainly celebrated in the town of Puebla and in the United States.
Originally largely celebrated in the 1960s, there was a lull in celebrating this holiday in the states for a couple of decades. In recent years there has been a resurgence of wide-spread pride and want to celebrate the holiday.

Events and Activities
This year, there are so many wonderful festivals and activities happening in the Fort Worth area. Pack up your family and enjoy one or more of these activities.
Cinco de Mayo Hoopfest // Hosted by Court23, Hoopfest is a basketball fest for children in fifth through twelfth grades and is held in Duncanville from April 30 until May 1. Registration deadline is April 25.
Cinco de Mayo Parking Lot Party // Join The Ranch for the 10th Annual Cinco de Mayo Parking Lot Party on Sunday, May 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Miranda’s Mexican Restaurant in Burleson, featuring Andrew Sevener, Sunny Sweeney, Bart Crow, John Wolfe and a very special guest!
Cinco de Mayo Run // This marathon is hosted in McKinney on May 7 benefitting the Neuro Assistance Foundation.
Cowboys Taco Fest // This all-day taco fest at AT&T Stadium held on May 7 won’t disappoint.
Fiesta de Mayo // Hosted by Irving Marathon, this marathon is being held on May 7 at Toyota Music Factory.
Pop Spot // A fun-filled pop-up shopping experience held at The Ostreum from May 5th until May 7.
Traders Village // Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Traders Village in Grand Prairie on May 1. Admission is free, parking is $5, and rides and food are extra.
If going out and doing things isn’t up your alley this year, there are plenty of other options to celebrate with your family!

Marco’s Cinco de Mayo by Lisa Bullard // This book follows Marco, who is a dancer in the town’s celebration, as he celebrates the festival and thinks about the original day.
Max Celebrates Cinco de Mayo by Adria Worsham // This book follows Max, as he goes to his friend Jose’s house and learns all about the holiday.
Cinco de Mouse-O! by Judy Cox // This fun book follows a mouse as he finds his way to a Cinco de Mayo festival in his hometown and learns about the holiday.

Alma’s Way // Check out this new series from PBS that follows Alma and her brother, Junior, in every day life. Available on PBS and the PBS Kids Video app. Ages five and older.
Canticos // Similar to Cocomelon, but in English and Spanish, this show is a fun way for little ones to learn in a way they understand. This show streams on Amazon and Paramount+. Ages three and older.
Cinco de Mayo from PBS // PBS created this informative, entertaining video on Youtube about Cinco de Mayo.
Coco // This movie follows young Miguel as he learns about his family’s history on Dia de Los Muertos where he finds himself in the afterlife. This movie streams on Disney+. Ages four and older.
Dora the Explorer // This show follows a little Mexican girl as she adventures with her friends in the jungle. Dora teaches Spanish words and phrases. A second series named Dora and Friends: Into the City follows Dora as a teenager living in the city. Dora the Explorer streams on Amazon and both shows stream on Paramount+. Ages three and older.
Legend Quest // This show follows a group of Hispanic friends who fight supernatural forces. You can find it on Netflix. Ages seven and older.
Maya and Miguel // This show features twin brother and sister growing up in America and teaches Spanish in every day, real life situations. This show streams on Amazon and PBS Kids. Ages five and older.
Nina’s World // Featuring Nina from The Good Night Show, Nina’s World follows Nina’s childhood stories. This show streams on Hulu and Peacock. Ages three and older.
Selena // This movie follows the life and legacy of The Queen of Tejano. Streaming on Amazon Prime. There is also a TV series that has been met with much controversy. Available on Netflix. Ages 10 and older.
The Book of Life // This animated movie teaches about Mexican culture, especially that of Dia de Los Muertos. You can find it on Disney+. Ages four and older.
