If you know me well, you know I love to take photos. Christmas time is by far my favorite time of year to take pictures. It’s just a magical season! Though I spend time on the side taking pictures of other people’s families, I have found that even the most inexperienced wanna-be photographer mom can take fun pictures of her family during the holidays. So, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite tips to add a little fun to your photos this Christmas season.
One of my favorite things to do is use cute Christmas wrapping paper as a background. You can either tape it to a wall or have your kiddos lay against it. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it does add something cute and whimsical to photos, depending on the paper you select.
Here is one I took a few years ago when my son Connor was a baby (obviously he couldn’t stand at that age):
This year I bought a cheap package of glitter confetti at the craft store. You have to be quick to take these pictures, but they are so much fun! Glitter is also a great option. Just place a little bit in your child’s hands and on the count of THREE snap that photo.
Another fun little trick I like to do is play with bokeh. Have your child stand close to the tree and you get a really cool lighting effect from the Christmas lights behind. For a tutorial on how to take these photos I used the one HERE.
Here’s another one I took last year with some cute red and green polka dot wrapping paper on the wall. It’s so easy and is a simple way to add some fun Christmas jazz to all your pictures.
Like I said, you don’t have to be a pro to capture great pictures of your family! I tell every Mom I’ve ever met….I’ve never regretted taking too many photos. My only regret would be if I didn’t take enough. I love to look back each year and remember those times. Life flies by too fast, make sure to capture your little ones while you can!
Great idea! We plan to take a wealth of photos during the holidays! Your suggestions will definitely add to our memorable experiences! 🙂 (Especially when traveling to grandma and grandpa’s)! 🙂
I have asked for a DSLR camera and LESSONS for Christmas this year. And I can honestly say I was partially influenced by A) the fact that all my kids photos are from an iphone and I feel guilty and B) because I see some of the adorable pics you take of Connor!! Thanks for the urging Becky. I can’t want to start snapping ones of my littles and getting creative!
