I’m a quilter, which means I am a fabric hoarder. The two go hand in hand, so I’m always happy to find uses for the scraps already in my stash, and scrappy bunting is an easy way to add some festive color to my holiday decorating. Not to mention, it’s so quick that I can finish the entire project during less than one nap time.
I picked out a few of my favorite vintage pink fabrics, making sure to choose a variety of shades and patterns. I prefer fabrics that are complementary, but not too matchy-matchy.
I didn’t even iron my fabric (don’t judge me); I simply laid it out and cut each piece into a 3-inch-wide strip.
Then, I cut those strips into 4-inch-long pieces, and cut the bottom at various angles to increase the scrappiness of the look.
Since we’re all moms, I thought I’d show you a REAL picture of what was going on as I was on the living room floor cutting. I had a sweet helper wearing footie pajamas . . . supervising. And by the way, fabric scraps make for great headbands!
From there, I simply sewed the bunting together, threading one piece right after the other. I chose to do a repetitive pattern, but sometimes if I have more fabrics, I’ll just pick pieces at random. There really are no rules; it’s whatever makes you happy.
And voila! Valentine’s scrappy bunting! It adds a sweet pop of color to our dining room without costing me a single penny. And at the end of February, I’ll simply throw it away, and if I want, make new bunting next year!
Also, just for my Fort Worth Moms Blog friends, I created a free Valentine’s Day printable that you can simply download and print/frame yourself!
You are so great! Hayden asked me the other day why we don’t decorate for other holidays? I stared at her blankly as I amsaid probably because we still have out Christmas tree in the house
Lindsay, you have a great excuse – you have twin babies! The year Mr. Right and I got married, our tree didn’t come down until the end of February.
You have the best taste in fabric (and lots of other things)! I love a little Valentine’s whimsy! Thanks for the print ๐
You’re so sweet Ashleigh! And you’re right, we all need a little more whimsy in our lives!
