Lake Texoma :: Road Trips from Fort Worth

Go to Lake Texoma on a family road trip from Fort Worth.If you’re looking for a place that has lots of outdoor activities and a relaxing lake vibe, Lake Texoma is just the place for you. It is only about an hour and a half drive from the metroplex. It has lots of fishing, good eats, trails, and lake cruises.

Lake Texoma has some of Texas and Oklahoma sprinkled throughout. It takes pride in doing what it can to conserve the land and the lake. There are lots of things to do on the water and off. Driving through this area yearly and having stayed here a few times, I have discovered a few gems along the way. Still, there is a lot left to explore!

What to Do

Chisholm Trail Heritage Center // Come explore and learn about the Chisholm Trail, the American Cowboy, and the American West. Voted one of the top 10 Western Museums in the U.S.! 

Crystal Creek Winery // For a romantic date or a fun day with the girls, wine lovers will love this winery! 

Eisenhower Birthplace Museum // For all the history buffs out there, this museum is located in Denison, which is close to Lake Texoma.

Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge // Hiking, wildlife viewing, and birding are just a few of the things this Wildlife Refuge has to offer.

Lake Cruises // Do you want to enjoy the sun and the lake? Do you want to see what a sunset cruise on the the lake is like? Fastrac Boat Charter and Cruises has everything you need for a fun day cruising on the lake. 

Lake Texoma State Park // Hiking, biking, kayaking — this state park has it all for all the outdoor lovers!

Sam Rayburn Library and Museum // Love libraries and history? This is the perfect place for history buffs. It’s only about 15 minutes away in Bonham, Texas.

Striper Express Fishing// Fishing guides will help you catch lots of fish while having a great time! 

Pro Tip: When fishing from a boat on the lake, you will need a Texas/Oklahoma fishing license.

Denison Food Truck Park // If you don’t know what you want to eat, this is a great place to stop. There is always a variety of delicious foods to chose from.

Napoli’s Italian Restaurant // If you’re in the mood for some good Italian, this is the place to stop.

Sammie’s Kitchen by the Lake // You won’t regret stopping here for sandwiches. It also offers dinner to go!

Alberta Creek Marina // Located on the lake with a floating restaurant, boat rentals, RV hookups, and cabins for rent, this marina is a one-stop-shop for all the lake lover’s needs. 

Grandpappy Point Resort and Marina // This place has it all — camping, boating, RV spaces, and good food — right on the lake! It was voted best marina in 2019!

Lake Texoma Lodge and Resort // This is the first resort located on the lake that has been serving travelers since the 1950s. Beautiful for romantic getaways or lakeside family getaway. Fishing packages offered. 

Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center // Located on the lake, this place has lots of amenities. Swim in one of the three pools, go horseback riding, and enjoy some delicious food. It’s also the perfect for setting for weddings and parties. 

WinStar World Casino // If you are looking for some excitement and a little time away, Winstar has it all. Spas, food, entertainment, shopping, and golfing are just a few things to do here, only minutes away from Lake Texoma.
