How the Apple Watch Has Changed My Mother-Loving Life

I am a busy lady with bustling social media accounts. I’m no stranger to falling down the newsfeed rabbit hole for hours, completely forgetting why I unlocked my phone in the first place. On the regular, I drain my phone battery trying to catch up with all the Internet happenings. With a husband, two kids, a dog, and a business, I don’t have time to waste.

After months of begging, my husband finally gifted me with an Apple Watch for my birthday (slash anniversary, slash Mother’s Day), and it has changed my life. No, really. I’m not being dramatic. Nor am I getting compensated for this post . . . although that would be flippin’ sweet. I’m just a mom in love with her Apple Watch and shouting it from the blogosphere rooftop. If you’ve considered investing, let me spell out for you exactly how this watch has rocked my mother-loving life.

Disconnect from Social Media

I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t it counterintuitive to buy more technology to disconnect from technology? Listen, my husband thought the same thing. But let me tell you, my Apple Watch has actually helped me disconnect from social media! Instead of making my watch a mirror image of my phone, I chose to transfer over minimal apps. This way I get the updates that matter most to me (i.e. calls/texts from family, friends, or clients) and leave the rest on my phone for bathroom breaks or nap time when I remember my laptop has been dead for days and the dog chewed through the charger.

Instead of Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook constantly alerting me, I know when I’m legitimately needed. Let me tell you, this has freed me up to be so much more present with my children, friends, and husband. I’m not stuck nursing my phone, losing myself in the endless scrollings of Facebook, and filling my brain with junk. It’s a wonderful feeling!

Self-Care Apps

I am notorious for not taking care of myself, and I’m going to guess I’m not the only one. As much as I encourage others to drink lots of water and take time to breathe and center their minds, I myself need insane amounts of reminders to do such things. Not anymore, my friends! Every two hours, my watch reminds me to drink water, encouraging 64 ounces a day. Twice a day it takes me through guided breathing exercises for one minute (or more if needed). It even acts as a heart rate monitor and tells me what my resting heart rate is after each breathing session.

I also love the activity reminders. At the end of each day, I can look back to see how many minutes I stood, how many steps I took, and how many calories I burned (or didn’t burn). Challenging myself is fun, but I can easily mute these reminders if I’m having an off-day. Plus, you can finally know how many miles you walk each day just by being a mom!

Navigation at the Flick of a Wrist

Have you ever been driving to a new location and Siri tells you turn RIGHT NOW? Yeah, me too. It’s frustrating, not to mention dangerous. Well, thanks to the Apple Watch, you have more than a millisecond to respond to driving instructions. With the Maps app open on your phone and watch, your watch gives a 5-10 second vibration warning before your phone says a thing. Since I travel to new locations multiple times a week with my job, having this extra warning is a God-send.

See for Yourself

While I try not to get too wrapped up in new technology, I’ve got to hand it to the geniuses at Apple; they’ve really outdone themselves with this one. There are many great reasons to buy into the Apple Watch craze. I could list more features that make this watch worth the price tag (like voice command that actually understands southern dialect), but we’d be here all day. If you’re still not convinced, take a few minutes to drive yourself over to the nearest Apple store and try it for yourself. Be sure to make an appointment, though. Can’t be late for nap time!
