A Knight’s Tale

The current special exhibit at the Arlington Museum of Art features a collection of rare objects including full suits of armor, mounted equestrian figures, helmets, swords, and other weaponry, telling the tale of the European knight from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Tickets $5 – $20.


Galaxy Park Playground

If you hadn’t heard, the new playground at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is finally complete! Now all we need is for the Omni theater to open back up. Museum admission from $12. Kids two and under free. 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Closed Mondays.


Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo

Rodeo time! From January 13 to February 4, immerse yourself in all things western and enjoy livestock and horse shows, kid-friendly activities and exhibits, live music, a carnival midway, shopping, festival food, and much more. Tons of information at the link. Tickets from $6. Kids five and under free.

January 4 – 8
Lightscape

Last chance to see the internationally acclaimed light installation at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. Walk a one-mile-long path with suspended strands and tunnels of light, a fire garden, treetop sculptures and artistic installations, and more. Toast marshmallows and sip hot chocolate and seasonal drinks at stations along the path. The experience takes about an hour and a half. Tickets $11 – $28; $5 member discount.


January 7
Family Workshop: Photo Lab

Spend the afternoon at the Amon Carter Museum browsing the Speaking with Light: Contemporary Indigenous Photography exhibit. Then, create your own family artworks using experimental photo editing techniques. Designed for kids ages six to 12. 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Free! Reservations required.

Kimbell Kids Drop-In Studio

Kids ages 12 and younger (plus adult companions) can visit the museum on Saturdays for special gallery explorations and related studio-art projects. This month’s theme is “Colorful Connections.” 1:00 – 1:45 p.m. Free!


January 8
Drawing from the Collection for Children

Bring a sketchbook and pencils to the Fort Worth Modern this afternoon. An artist will take kids through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern’s galleries. Space is limited, so arrive early and sign up at the front desk. 2:00 p.m. Kids under 18 are always free, and adult admission is $8 (half price) on Sundays.

Nature Adventurers: Snakes

The Nature Adventurers program at River Legacy Living Science Center in Arlington is designed for children ages two and a half to five years old. Visit this morning for hands-on learning opportunities led by experienced teachers on the subject of snakes! 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. $20 for one child/adult pair. $5 for one additional child.

BTX Off Road Rally

How funny is this? Watch kids ages three to five years old race power wheels at Chisenhall Fields in Burleson. The top three finishers will receive medals. 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free!

One more for the Amon Carter today: Spend quality time with your infant at the Amon Carter Museum as you sing, explore, and play with baby-friendly drawing materials. Designed for kids ages 24 months and younger. 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Free! Reservations required.
