A Cowtown Summer Bucket List

Back in the spring, I posted a list of activities my family decided to do over the course of that season. Some of them we crossed off, and the others? Well, we’ll try again. When you have small children, you learn the meaning of the word flexible.

Today I’m back with our ideas for summer fun around the area!

1. Take in one of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra’s Concerts in the Garden. Although they don’t start until 8:15, which will mean I’ll have to work the naps that day to make this happen, I know my kids will love listening to the live music, and each night ends with fireworks. We are so there.

2. We went before having kids and loved it, so we’ll try and check out a Fort Worth Cats game. Looking at the schedule, it seems that some (not all) Wednesdays are dollar hot dog nights. Perfect for littles!

3. Invite friends over for popsicles and a splash through the sprinkler. Summer is for simplicity!

4. Sundance Square Jetted Fountains. I keep seeing pics of our friends having fun in the water down there. Sundance Square has such a great atmosphere, and bonus, there is a Starbucks right there for mom and dad. Here are the rules for playing.

5. This one is more for mom and dad, but my own personal grill master will fire up the barbie for our favorite steak from Roy Pope’s over off of Camp Bowie. This is one of our favorite treats.

6. A short trip to Granbury for some time at their City Beach. It’s the perfect spot (short of driving to Galveston or South Padre) for some sun and sand within the state of Texas.

7. Visit story time at the Central Fort Worth Public Library downtown. While this is certainly not relegated to summertime, it’s something we’ve been wanting to check out. Bonus: air conditioning.

8. Sunset Cinema at the Amon Carter Museum out on the lawn. We attended one of their Art in the Dark events last year and had a great time. With little kids, I especially love that this starts at 6, rather than super late.

I hope you have a great Cowtown summer!

What are your favorite Fort Worth summer activities?

After more than a decade as a software engineer (two of those as a working mother), she cleaned out her cubicle and can be found most days at one of the beautiful parks Cowtown has to offer, without a WiFi hotspot in range. These days, Emily spends her time exploring our fair city with her babes in tow, volunteering at her church, cheering on the Fightin' Texas Aggies, and shopping her way through DFW at large.
