Around Cowtown: Family-Friendly Events September 2017

From plays, to farmers markets, to the State Fair, a lot is happening in this first month of autumn. Ennis Farmers Market — 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. // Come down to Historic Downtown Ennis for farm fresh produce, and home baked sweets and treats! The kids and kids at heart will enjoy Giant Jenga, Jumbo Connect Four, and our special Make-It-at-the-Market craft project.

September 1 – 10

Moon Over Buffalo — 7:30 p.m. // The Ennis Public Theatre is putting on the comedy, Moon Over Buffalo. George and Charlotte are trying to make it big, and have one shot, but can’t seem to even figure out what show they are putting on!

September 2-4

Labor Day Weekend at the Dallas Arboretum — 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. // From bubble blowing to live music, the Dallas Arboretum has plenty to keep your Labor Day weekend fun and easy. $2 hot dogs and root beer floats will be sure to make the whole family smile. 

September 9 – 17

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat — 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. // See the amazing dramatized parable of the biblical saga of Joseph and his dazzling coat of many colors at Casa Mañana.

September 12 – 17

Beautiful — 7:30 p.m. // The Carole King Musical comes to life at Bass Performance Hall in the story that tells how Carole King wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

Annual Book Sale — 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. // What’s better than a good book? A good book and a great deal! Don’t miss the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale in Ennis.

September 23 – 30

Autumn at the Arboretum — 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. // With a theme of Wizard of Oz for their pumpkin patch, and thousands of beautiful blooming fall flowers, what more could you want?

September 29 – October 22

Texas State Fair — Times TBD // It’s that time of year again — live entertainment, Big Tex, farm animals, and lots and lots of amazing fried food — all at the Texas State Fair.

TCU Football — 7:00 p.m. // TCU takes on Jackson State in the first game of the 2017 season. 

September 9

W.A.T.E.R. Festival — 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. // Learn about water at the River Legacy Living Science Center during their Water Awareness Through Education & Recreation (W.A.T.E.R.) Festival.

September 16

Heart of Gold 5K: Run for the Children — 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. // Team up with Heroes for Children in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and raise money for children with cancer. This event will also have food, giveaways, prizes, and lots of fun!

September 23

Museum Day Live! // Download a Museum Day Live! ticket and get free admission for two people to participating museums. In Fort Worth you could go to Log Cabin Village, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Sid Richardson Museum, American Airlines CR Smith Museum, or the Fort Worth Museum of Science and history!

September 30

Ellis County Second Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair — 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.// Meet first responders and explore fire trucks and rescue equipment. This event will be fun for the whole family. Come out and meet your awesome Ellis County first responders and learn how to be prepared in the event of an emergency.
