Here in Texas, we love country music so much we even have our own genre, Texas Red Dirt Country. If you’re a country music lover, here are a few festive concerts and events you can attend with your partner, friends, and family!
County Music Festivals
Here are some of the most popular, boot-scootin’ festivals around! They’re dates may change per year, so check each website for specifics.
Gordy’s Hwy 30 Music Fest :: Fort Worth :: Head to Texas Motor Speedway for this massive country festival. Tickets start at $159, and kids under 12 are free.
Stars Over Texas Music Festival :: Ennis :: Children under six are free admission, but you will pay about $150 general admission per ticket at the door if you haven’t bought tickets already.
Texas 90s Fest :: Conroe :: A great event for 90s lovers! General admission starts at $39 for tickets in advance, and VIP passes are $200. Kids are $10 online ($15 at the gate), and three year olds and younger are free.
Country Concerts
Arlington has a couple of venues to catch some country music artists. At Arlington Music Hall, you could see greats like Neal McCoy!
Levitt Pavilion offers free concerts, so stop by for an affordable night of fun.
If you’re looking for a bigger venue, there are a few options, such as Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Dos Equis Pavilion in Arlington, and Winstar Casino in Oklahoma.
Of course, the Stockyards are always a great location to catch some country music. Several bars feature live music, but be sure to swing by the world’s largest honkey tonk, Billy Bob’s Texas.
Country Music Museums
Interested in a road trip? Head to Brady, Texas, where you can visit the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum. It’s about a three-hour drive from Fort Worth, but something new to do on a weekend. You can see costumes and memorabilia, and even check out Jim Reeve’s tour bus known as “Big Blue!” Bonus, admission is free on weekends.
Another Texas country music museum exists out in East Texas that’s also about three hours from Tarrant County. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame’s Tex Ritter Museum are located in Carthage. Tex Ritter was a successful Hollywood actor and singer. Most of us are probably too young to know him, but he was also the father of the late actor, John Ritter. (You might remember him from Three’s Company reruns, the Problem Child movies, or the 8 Simple Rules sitcom where he starred alongside Kaley Cuoco and Katey Sagal.) Coincidentally, this museum also contains a Jim Reeves display.
Budget-Friendly Ways to Cherish Country Music
What’s more affordable than turning on some country music tunes and dusting off your cowboy boots to do some dancing down in the Stockyards? Or simply sing along to your favorite local country station on the radio while stuck in rush hour.
Perhaps plan a romantic date night where you ship the kids off for a sleepover and you and your partner can two-step around the living room. I recommend adding Josh Turner’s “Why Don’t We Just Dance” to your playlist.
However you celebrate country music, I hope you have a hoot-and-hollering good time!
