Love My Local: SWFW Treat Yo’ Self Edition

SW Fort Worth Mama, are you tired? In need of a day away from the kids? The husband?

I’ve got three words for you: Treat yo’ self!

Want to eat a warm meal, in one sitting, with both hands?

Treat yo’ self!

Need a massage? Mani/pedi? Waxing?

Treat yo’ self!

Looking to upgrade your swagger with a new sweater?

Treat yo’ self!

My family and I live in a character-filled home in up-and-coming (back) South Hills. We love our quaint, 1950s house on our quiet street. It is our first home, and it’s very walls hold some of our fondest memories. Heck, our daughter was conceived AND birthed here. (TMI? Probably but the honey badger don’t even care.)

Not only do I love the character of our old house, but I also love its location. We are perfectly nestled between the bustle of Hulen and the chic of TCU. From where I stand, we have a plethora of restaurants, salons, and shopping.

Join me, will you, as we begin our journey on a casual, fun, Treat Yo’ Self girls’ day.

 Massage Envy

I realize there are Massage Envys all over DFW, but I like this one in particular. Located in Trinity Commons on Hulen, it is spacious without being too large, and the massage therapists make certain that you receive the experience you desire. With a questionnaire including questions from past surgeries and injuries to whether you want a Chatty Cathy therapist or a Muted Molly, you are sure to leave happy and relaxed. You might even find yourself smiling as you sit in traffic.

Chandelier Nail and Brow Bar

I love love love this place! I love the chic but cozy atmosphere of this boutique style salon on West Berry. From my first visit in July 2015, the owner Susanna has remembered me every time I’ve visited. You can enjoy conversation with friends or your nail tech without shouting over loud music or busy chatter. And all while sipping cold mimosas – holla!!! When your nails are dry, you can hop over to the back room and enjoy a brow (or upper lip, no judgment) waxing or, my personal favorite, threading.

Now that our shoulders have been rubbed down and our brow separated, let’s freshen up our look with some new threads.

Funky Trunks Boutique

Funky Trunks Boutique on BlueBonnet Circle is the perfect place to revamp your look. FTB is so fun and funky it will knock off your socks. Always on point with the latest fashions, you will leave feeling more hip and suave than J.Lo herself. Not only does FTB now have two store locations (on BlueBonnet circle and at ZeeBa Salon and Spa), but it also offers private shopping parties in your living room — what, what!!! The owners, Courtney and Stacy, are absolute dolls and so fun to talk to.

You’re relaxed, waxed, and fabulous, now it’s time to feed your belly, quite possibly most definitely my favorite part of this adventure. In middle school, I once told my best friend I couldn’t wait to go to sleep so I could wake up and eat breakfast. But I digress.

 Cafe Brazil

I’ve got one delicious word for you: MIGAS!!!!! I’m convinced this is the yummiest hispanic breakfast/brunch food known to humanity. Move over breakfast burrito, take a seat breakfast taco, I’m eating migas. And if your sweet tooth is throbbing, you will more than soothe it with the delicious Pancrepes. No I did not spell that wrong, PAN-CREPES!!! Is it a pancake or is it a crepe? Yes, the answer is yes. Y’all, these things are not playing around. They mean delicious business. On top of a plentiful adult menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, its kids menu is off the chain! Kind (and kid-friendly) waitstaff, delicious food, fair prices, tasty coffee. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

The Greek House

If mexican food is not your flavor (who are you?), maybe some Greek will satisfy your buds. When my husband and I first moved here, we immediately began our hunt for good Greek food. After sadly settling for okay-ish Greek food at the mall, we finally found The Greek House on Forest Park and have been Opa-ing our way to thicker waistlines ever since. When you go to TGH, be sure you show up no earlier than noon, otherwise you will be sitting in your car until the owners (a precious Greek couple) show up to unlock the door and crank up the grill at approximately 12:00 p.m. My favorite is the classic gyro (pronounced “yeer-o,” you’re welcome) plate. Mmm tzatziki sauce . . . .

Cafe Bella

In case you’re somehow still hungry or you’re craving some I-talian, let me introduce you to my little friend, Bella, Cafe Bella. This place is where it’s at. It’s quaint, it’s authentic, and it’s BYOB. That’s right BYOB, y’all! Delicious items to stuff your face with include but are not limited to: gigantic garlic rolls, calamari, veal parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana, chicken marsala, baked ziti, cannelloni, spaghetti, cannoli . . . did I mention cannoli? I’m literally drooling writing this.

This concludes our tour of my neck of the woods. There is still more to see, but it must wait for another day. I hope you enjoyed our little adventure as much as I did. I’m sorry I ate all of the cannoli.

Sort of.

No I’m not.

We, at FWMB, love our local so much we created Neighbor Groups for every corner of Tarrant county — and in between. You’ll also find topical groups, like adoptive moms, single moms, food allergy moms, etc. Join a Neighbor Group (or two) today and get connected with other moms in your area.
