The Together Project :: Support SafeHaven of Tarrant County to Bring Freedom from Domestic Violence

The Together Project is a Fort Worth Moms Blog initiative to support local non-profits impacting women and children in North Texas and to mobilize FWMB readers to meet immediate needs. We are honored to partner with SafeHaven, which works throughout Tarrant County to end domestic violence. Together — because your family is my family.

One in three women in Tarrant County will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. She’s your neighbor, the mom next to you during soccer practice, and maybe even your family member. SafeHaven of Tarrant County provides a level of care to these survivors that makes them feel empowered and leads them to freedom.

SafeHaven often uses the tagline “freedom from domestic violence” beneath the logo. Staff spends time working with each client to determine what that means to her. One universal answer is complicated; needs vary like the resources SafeHaven provides — shelter, legal help, and counseling. But another answer is simple: Survivors need people like you.

Ending domestic violence isn’t an easy task, and it takes a coordinated community response to create a culture that puts its foot down when it comes to abuse. The culture of SafeHaven is creating community, and more than anything, the agency needs you to be an active member of that community.

Support SafeHaven

Purple Party, SafeHaven’s spring fundraising event, promises to be a fun and elegant new way to join SafeHaven in its mission to end domestic violence. On April 12, guests are invited to sip, bid, and dance the night away at Ashton Depot, all while supporting domestic violence survivors in Tarrant County.

The event features hors d’oeuvres, dinner from the kitchen of chef Cesar Gallegos, drinks, a silent auction, and a unique mystery wall — where your $20 promises a mystery gift valued at $25 or more. The night begins with cocktails and live music on the Ashton Depot patio before guests move inside for dinner and a light program. A photo booth, dance floor, and DJ will keep guests entertained throughout the evening.

Purple Party is one of two fundraising events for SafeHaven and raised more than $65,000 in its inaugural event last April. Sponsorship packages and table sales are available for purchase now, so don’t miss out on what is sure to be an incredible night in downtown Fort Worth. Visit www.safehaventc.org/purpleparty for table sales and ticket packages. Or for sponsorship information, contact director of donor relations Emily Hancock at [email protected] or 817-502-7126.

The SafeHaven Mission

SafeHaven’s mission is to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention, and social change.

SafeHaven is the largest and most comprehensive agency in Tarrant County providing services at no cost to victims of domestic violence. In 2018 alone, 1,322 women and children stayed at SafeHaven’s two emergency shelters. Thousands of other lives were touched through counseling, legal services, transitional housing, prevention education, and abuse intervention courses.

Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. If you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship, please call the hotline at 1-877-701-7233 for more resources. Call 911 if you are currently in a life-threatening situation.

Contact community coordinator Courtney Scull at 817-502-7168 if you are interested in volunteer opportunities. For more information about SafeHaven, please visit www.safehaventc.org.
