I Am a Fort Worth Mama: Cynthia E. Scott

1

Cynthia Scott PhotoCynthia E. Scott is a mama on a misson. Between serving as an administrative assistant at Fort Worth Presbyterian Church, where she is also a member, and loving on two kids and five grand babies, Cynthia also tries to find time to sew, make dolls, and read.

After becoming empty nesters and longing to make a difference in the world, Cynthia and her husband of 30 years, Adrian, were introduced through a mutual friend to a couple who were International Foster Care parents. The rest is history. Cynthia now devotes her time to ensuring that her foster children overcome the trials of their past, and reach their full potential in a safe, loving home. Most of the children Cynthia and her husband foster are unaccompanied minors and refugees who range from ages 15-17, with harrowing stories of survival.

Cynthia graciously took the time to answer our famous five:

If we peeked in your purse right now, what would we find?

I’m a pretty simple mama, so nothing out of the ordinary. Just makeup, cell phone, and breath strips.

Why do you call Cowtown home?

After living in Cleveland, Ohio for most of our marriage, my husband and I decided we were ready to get away from the long, cold, gray winters.

What’s been the greatest joy of motherhood?

Oh, that’s an easy one: loving, teaching, and laughing with my kids.

What’s been the greatest challenge of motherhood?

Sitting back and allowing my grown kids to make their own mistakes. As a mama, we always want to protect our little ones, but when they become not-so-little-ones, it’s tough to see them struggle. I just have to remind myself that is how strong, independent, successful adults are forged.

How do you hope your life influences and/or inspires other women?

When you’re a foster mom, you can make the same impressions on your foster child as you can on your biological child AND ultimately, we are here on earth to serve God. What better way to do that than to show the love of Christ to a child that God has chosen to place in your life and home?
