The Watershed Studio {2015 Moms Who Mean Business}

The Watershed Studio, run by Amy Baer, provides custom graphic design services and printed cards, announcements, wall art, and invitations.

TheWatershedStudio_VarietyofDesignsWhile I was on maternity leave in 2011, I decided to use the Etsy marketplace to start selling the cards and artwork I had been designing for gifts for my friends and family. The Watershed Studio was born!

Before graduate school, I was a professional graphic designer for marketing and advertising firms in Missouri, Texas, and Georgia. During maternity leave, it seemed only natural for me to pursue graphic design projects as a freelancer and my Etsy shop was just one expression of that work. At first, the most popular item in my shop was custom family tree wall art. As a twin mom myself, I knew it was challenging to find custom baby items for twins, so I added a few custom stationery designs that I had designed for myself after my twins were born. Each year since I opened the shop in 2011, my sales have doubled. In 2015 I have been averaging about one new customer a day through Etsy.

What is not visible in my online shop on Etsy is my passion for social justice, service, and TheWatershedStudio_AmysFamilyoutreach to the most vulnerable members of our community. In between being a graphic designer and having babies, I was ordained as a Presbyterian minister serving in ministries ranging from hospice chaplaincy to hunger and homeless ministries. Whenever given the opportunity, I yearn to use my graphic design skills for the betterment of the community.

Since moving to Fort Worth, I have designed print pieces for churches, community organizing groups, and community programs serving hungry people. Most small non-profit organizations are unable to afford professional graphic design services, but these organizations are the most in need of effective, targeted, well-designed marketing collateral materials. My hope is that small non-profits serving the most vulnerable people in our midst will learn about The Watershed Studio and come to me for their graphic design needs. My goal is to provide those services at a rate that is TheWatershedStudio_BabyTwinThankYouDesignsmanageable for small nonprofits who struggle to make ends meet.

The Watershed Studio is a little design shop where the greatest joys are celebrated in print!  I thoroughly enjoy designing custom invitations, artwork, and stationery for birthdays, new couples, and families with new babies! But, graphic design is not just about making pretty things; it is about story-telling. Behind the pretty designs and colorful images in my Etsy shop, I am a professional graphic designer dedicated to equipping small non-profit organizations for their service to our community. As a stay-at-home mom of very small children, this is a season when I am not able to volunteer onsite with food pantries or homeless shelters as in years past, so my gift to give my community is my passion for good design shared with organizations who are dedicated to helping others.

A little known fact about Amy, she also lived in Fort Worth years ago for an internship in college with Channel 5, the NBC affiliate for the Metroplex. Her strongest ties in the Fort Worth community are with her church and other faith-based organizations in the area. You can follow Amy on Facebook and Instagram
