Local Places to Play Pickleball

0

Our family loves to play pickleball on the weekends. Though it was created in the 1960s, pickleball has taken the nation by storm in the past few years. The fast-growing sport combines components of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It can be played indoor or outdoor, with two, three, or four players.

Though you can play on a modified tennis court, there are many regulation pickleball courts in DFW. And it is a great game to play with kids! Here are some of our favorite spots to play pickleball:

Arlington Tennis Center :: This city owned center has eight outdoor lighted pickleball courts. It also has a pro shop, concessions, and locker rooms. ATC is very affordable, at $3.50 per person for 90 minutes. There are also discounted court-fee passes for frequent players.

Chicken N Pickle :: With locations in Grapevine, Grand Prairie, and (coming soon) Allen, this popular restaurant has many pickleball courts, both inside and outside. Chicken N Pickle has extensive food and drink menus, (love the fried pickles and the Tiki cocktails) making it a great place to host an event. It also offers lessons and clinics for newbies, as well as social events where you can find your next pickleball partner.

City of Fort Worth :: Fort Worth has several community centers with pickleball classes and open play hours. Locations include Chisholm Trail Community Center, Fire Station Community Center, R. D. Evans Community Center, and many more. Bonus: Many of the courts are inside air conditioned centers!

Corporate Employees Recreation Association :: CERA is a beautiful facility with six designated indoor courts and 20 hours per week of open play. It has many amenities, including locker rooms. CERA has tournaments and clinics throughout the year. You must have a membership to access the facility.

Playing pickleball is fun for the whole family.

Courtside Kitchen :: Located in Fort Worth, Courtside Kitchen is a restaurant and bar with a solid happy hour — $2 off frozen drinks sounds perfect! There are two covered courts and nine uncovered. Courtside also has lessons, drills, and a membership that gives you early access to reservations and events.

Dove Park :: This community park has pickleball courts with adult pickleball tournaments and classes. What we love about this park is the accessible playground. There is also Dove Waterpark located nearby — it is an awesome place to spend the day with your family!

Hurst Tennis Center :: There are two lighted designated pickleball courts at this tennis center. Fees are only $3 per 90 minutes for Hurst residents and $5 for non-residents. The Tennis Center also has ongoing group classes for beginners and advanced players, as well as private lessons with tennis pros.

McLeland Tennis Center :: This Fort Worth tennis center has two designated pickleball courts, as well as four tennis/pickleball hybrid courts. You can reserve using its app, which is so convenient! It also has monthly memberships where you have unlimited access to the courts for $21/month. Group classes and tournaments are coming soon!

Shady Grove Park :: The lighted pickleball/tennis courts at this Azle park are free and first come, first serve. This is another great park with an inclusive playground and many more amenities. Play a few rounds and then cool down on the public beach area on the lake.
