Moms are always preparing, and one of the biggest preparations we make is for our children’s education. We spend countless hours choosing daycares, private, public, religious schools, and the list can go on and on. We want to be sure that our babies have the best educational experience and love of learning.

As our kiddos grow up and college is around the corner, many of us have college accounts set up to offset the astronomical cost of college education. For the remainder of the costs, many students have to fill out financial aid paperwork to have access to loans, grants, and scholarships. This article will discuss scholarships and how they can assist with paying for your child’s college education.

A local scholarship is a financial award that is offered by a community or organization within a specific geographic area. These scholarships are typically designed to support students who are pursuing higher education and who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership skills, or community involvement.

Local scholarships can be a great way for students to reduce the cost of their education and to support their goals. Many organizations, including schools, non-profits, and businesses, offer local scholarships, so it’s worth researching what opportunities are available in your area.

Fort Worth ISD

Fort Worth Independent School District’s website lists local and national scholarships each month.

They’ve organized it by age:

The district also has scholarships for middle school and elementary students! It’s never too early to start applying.

Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has a list of scholarships that high school and college students may apply to. Click the link to keep track of deadlines.

Some notable scholarships are: 

  • The Freddie Caram Jr Scholarship :: In honor of the late Freddie Caram Jr, this scholarship requires a minimum 2.75 GPA. Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or a Tarrant County Community College student with plans to attend a university.
  • Tarleton State University partnership :: Criteria include a high school top quarter ranking and a 1080 sAT Score or 23 ACT score.
  • University of Texas Arlington partnership :: Recipient must enroll as a full-time student, have a 2.5 GPA or higher, completed and submitted a FAFSA/TAFSA with UTA, and submit a MAVScholarship application. 
  • TCU partnership :: Recipient must enroll as a full-time student and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors

The Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors has a scholarship for high school and/or worthwhile college students living in the Tarrant, Johnson, or Parker County. It’s typically due in March, so mark your calendar.

Frisco ISD

Frisco ISD also has a scholarship webpage. The school district awards Frisco ISD students with scholarships via the Frisco Education Foundation. It also lists other scholarships that any student can apply for.  

Local scholarships can provide valuable financial support to students pursuing their academic goals. By researching and applying for these opportunities, students can not only alleviate the burden of paying for their education but also demonstrate their commitment to their community.
