June is a time to celebrate — from Pride Month to Juneteenth, we recognize and lift up each other. This month, encourage your children to embrace others and keep kindness and love shining bright!

June 2 – 4 // Van Cliburn International Piano Competition // Bass Performance Hall // One of the preeminent international music contests, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition shares excellent classical music with the largest international audience possible. It launches the careers of its winners every four years. The world’s top 18- to 31-year-old pianists compete in front of a live audience in Fort Worth, as well as a global online viewership of more than five million.

June 2 – 4 // Colour Me Queer // Dallas Urban Arts Center // This festival will feature seven works that showcase the diversity of the LGBTQ community. The event is presented by the Blaque Artists Collective, a group recognized by the City of Dallas office of Arts and Culture for its contribution to the cultural community.

June 4 // Carrollton Pride Day – A Celebration of Diversity // Held at the Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, the city of Carrollton’s is celebrating LGBTQ Pride. Though the event is centralized at the church, the organizers consider it a “city-wide” event, as several local business are invited to be a part of the festivities. There will be several food and vendor booths for your family to enjoy.

June 4 // Bringing Science to Life // Hood County Library // Watch Wildlife on the Move, a presentation of live animals at the Hood County Library! 

June 4 // Miss Juneteenth Pageant // See Miss Juneteenth be crowned! The mission of the Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant is to provide a forum for young women to enhance their self-esteem, explore self-expression, and provide areas for personal development training. 

June 4 // Friends and Family Pride Picnic // Cherry Park // Save the date for this pride month kick-off event in Weatherford! Join family and friends as to show support for the LGBTQ+ community in Parker County.

June 4 // Screen on the Green // Watch The Princess Bride, hosted by the Gladney Center for Adoption. Tickets are $5 and include popcorn and an ice cream treat.

June 4 – 5 // Dallas Pride at Fair Park // Dallas’ 39th annual Pride celebration will be a two-day event the first weekend in June. Traditionally, the festival happens all day Saturday, and the parade is on Sunday. Festival hours are 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission is $10 ages 20+, $5 ages 13 to 19, children 12 and younger are free. There will be music, entertainment, art, food, exhibits, and more than 200 vendors! In the Automobile Building, kids can enjoy a family pride zone, including bounce houses, face painting, the Pride Train, and entertainment. There will also be a Teen Zone with live music and entertainment for LGBTQ teens and allies. The Dallas Pride Music Festival in the Park will begin in the evening hours. 

June 4 – 12 // Disney’s Newsies // Casa Mañana // This is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies” in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right! This show is suitable for most audiences.

After the presentation, there is an opportunity to touch and explore real dinosaur fossils!

June 10 – 11 // FitCon // Panther Island Pavilion // FitCon is a fitness expo that features exhibitors, celebrity guests, live music, competitions, and more. It showcases a variety of sports and fitness, all in one venue.

June 11 // Free Backyard Composting Class // River Legacy Living Science Center // The City of Arlington provides hands-on information about how to compost at home. This informal class is free and requires no registration.

June 11 // Sounds of the Past // Log Cabin Village // Attend morning of storytelling, music, and crafting with the award-winning Sheran Goodspeed Keyton! Children five to 12 years old will be enraptured by the stories and songs of our ancestors and have a chance to make their own musical instrument to take home. After the program in the historic marine schoolhouse, take some time to explore the rest of Log Cabin Village as a family.

June 18 // Father’s Day Cookout // Fort Worth Zoo // Celebrate dad at the zoo! Tickets include dinner, open bar serving beer and wine, a meet-and-greet with the zoo’s outreach animals, giraffe feeding experience for the whole family, and a meerkat adoption package for dad. 

June 18 // I Am Juneteenth Festival // Panther Island Pavilion // This year’s community event will be hosted at Panther Island Pavilion off the Trinity River providing great social distancing space for families to enjoy live acts, good food, kids zone, and a spectacular fireworks show.

June 18 // Juneteenth Celebration // Mansfield // Mansfield celebrates Juneteenth with live performances, vendor booths, food booths, kids activities, and most importantly, education on the importance of Juneteenth and to share and celebrate our history and future. Event will take place both inside and outside the Performing Arts Center.

June 18 // Opal’s Walk for Freedom // Walk — or even drive — the 2.5 miles with Ms. Opal to recognize the 2.5 years it took for the news of freedom to reach all enslaved people in the United States.

June 18 // LGBTQ Saves Youth Pride Picnic at Trinity Park // Join from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as younger members of the LGBTQ community are invited to a picnic in the park! The organization welcomes people age 24 and younger to bring friends and family to a free cookout. You can find the picnic at 2401 University Drive. Grab a hamburger or hotdog and play some games!

The Soul of Soul of Sycamore Juneteenth Art In The Park is an event designed to educate, excite, and inform the community about the meaning of Juneteenth.

June 19 // Finally, Free At Last Musical // Jim Austin Online partners with Future Generation Artists to present this Juneteenth musical spectacle. 

June 24 // Family Nights // The WARM Place // Family Nights are opportunities for the whole family to make happy memories together and connect. The WARM Place is a grief and support center for kids and teenagers. These fun events are open to past, current, and waitlist families, and are always free to attend!

June 25 // Summer Celebration // Veteran’s Park in White Settlement // Kick off summer with fireworks and more. 

June 25 // Juneteenth Health Expo // Celebrate Juneteenth with local business and vendors. 

June 25 // Midsummer Murder // Log Cabin Village // Try your hand at playing detective by evaluating the evidence and interviewing suspects to nab a killer! Prizes will be given to those who correctly solve this 19th-century mystery. Due to the nature of the evidence presented, this event is for those 16 years and older. 

June 25 // Dallas Wings Pride Night Game // College Park Center // Sports fans and WNBA enthusiasts can come to the College Park Center in Arlington to see the Dallas Wings take on the Phoenix Mercury for the Association’s Pride Game Night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Besides the basketball game, there will be themed entertainment and fun for the whole family. June 25 // Trinity Pride Fest on the Magnolia Green // This celebration of love is Fort Worth’s annual Pride event. The event is family and pet friendly, and totally casual — bring your own blanket or camping chairs and enjoy the festivities! You can enjoy live music, lawn games, and an artisan market. Multiple food trucks will line the park. No outside food allowed. Don’t forget to check out tables for local LGBTQ organizations to see how you can help make our city more inclusive. Free parking available at 1201 Alston Avenue near the Green.
